Ways to Get Involved
If there is a specific neighborhood issue of concern to you, begin by contacting CHA to learn whether we are already aware of or working on the issue and for advice on contacting City government and other recommended steps.
As a CHA member, you will receive emails from CHA alerting you to important issues and deadlines and letting you know how to get involved -- usually by writing a short email or letter or by attending a public hearing.
In addition to active CHA membership, CHA offers several other ways to get involved:
Issue Liaisons
CHA occasionally designates a member to serve as the CHA's liaison to the key agencies and groups that are handling a specific issue, such as:
- Planning for the America's Cup race to be held in San Francisco
- The Cow Hollow Playground
If you've expressed interest in a particular issue, you may be invited to become CHA's official liaison regarding that issue.
Block Liaisons
Among the CHA's important programs is the Block Liaison (also known as "Block Captain") initiative. The goal is to designate a CHA Block Liaison to each of the 80 blocks within CHA's boundaries. The purpose of the initiative is to welcome newcomers and foster community within individual blocks and to take the recommended steps to prepare for disasters and other public emergencies. Contact CHA to learn who your Block Liaison is or to learn more about becoming one yourself.
Association Officers and Board of Directors
Board members attend monthly meetings held at 6:00 pm the first Tuesday of most months at board member's homes. Officers are elected annually by the membership at the Annual Meeting in May. Board members are elected annually by the membership to staggered two-year terms which may be renewed. Board members are expected to attend eleven monthly meetings per year, the Annual Meeting and the Board retreat and to be active in at least one committee. All former board members are invited to join the Advisory Board. Contact the President for more information about Board membership.
